---- — Emma Long, 90, Strafford, Mo., formerly of Kokomo, passed away at 9 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2013, at her residence. She was born Jan. 15, 1923, in Kokomo, to the late Buford and Blanch (Creason) Cook. She married Robert D. Long, of Miami County, in Kokomo, on Nov. 30, 1941, and he preceded her in death on March 4, 1982. She moved to Strafford, Mo., in September 2006.
Emma was a homemaker and retired from Cuneo Press of Indiana in 1979. She enjoyed gardening, working in her flower beds and working crossword puzzles. Emma loved her family, her eight grandchildren and her three great-grandchildren dearly.
Emma is survived by a daughter, Connie Sue Achenbach, Harriman, Tenn.; a son, Ronald D. Long and wife, Jennifer, Strafford, Mo.; eight grandchildren, James R. Achenbach and wife, Tracey, Huntsville, Ala., Debra and her husband, John Keller, Knoxville, Tenn., Brian Long and his wife, Melody, Springfield, Mo., Angela Achenbach, Knoxville, Tenn., Jeffrey Achenbach, Rockwood, Tenn., Jeremy Long and his wife, Shannon, Springfield, Mo., Justin Long, Springfield, Mo., Tina Long, Columbia, Mo. (who lived with Emma for 20 years); three great-grandchildren, Clara Marie Long, Hans Daniel Keller and Emma Jane Keller. She is also survived by two brothers, Earnest Cook and his wife, Zellen, Cass County, Mich., and Mason Cook and his wife, Jewel, Willits, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert D. Long; one son, James Robert Long; her son-in-law, Robert Achenbach; her parents; two sisters, Ellen (Cook) McCrumb and Shirley (Cook) Pope; two brothers; Charles Cook and Lloyd Cook.
Emma wanted a special note to be made that she’s expecting a great-grandson in October. She also requested special thanks be announced for Hospice Care of Springfield. Thanks Kathy, Jill, Missy and Monica for being so nice.
The funeral service for Emma will be at noon Saturday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., with Pastor Kerry Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Albright Cemetery. Emma’s family will be receiving relatives and friends for a time of visitation from 10 a.m. to the time of services Saturday, also at the mortuary. Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Main St., Kokomo, assisted the family with arrangements.
