Albert Ralph “AR” Marley Jr., 87, Kokomo, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Community Howard Regional Health. He was born on Nov. 1, 1925, in Gosport, to Albert Ralph and Lucy Margaret (Skomp) Marley. Albert married Thelma I. Webb on April 8, 1950, and she passed away on Oct. 24, 1987. He married Dorothy Shaffer on April 2, 1988, and she passed Jan. 23, 2009.
Albert was a 1943 Gosport High School graduate, earned a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University in 1950 and a master’s degree in 1973, also from Purdue. He was a member Main Street Christian Church, First United Methodist Church in Auburn, Salem First Christian Church, and Gosport Christian Church. He also had been a member of Lions Club in Russiaville, Shoals, Salem and Rushville. Albert loved to go hunting, fishing and was an avid Purdue Fan.
Mr. Marley was a proud father and stepfather. Surviving are his children, Ralph (Joyce) Marley, Robert Eugene (Julia) Marley, Judy K. (William) Jordan, Brenda L. McCoy, Jon A. (Julie) Marley, Bruce K. (Jan) Cranor, Cynthia A. (James) Houck, Rebecca Lynn Cranor; sisters Mary Elizabeth White, Margaret Ann Pinkston; sister-in-law, Mary Edith Marley; 21 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 E. Main St., Russiaville. Burial will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Gosport Cemetery with military rites. Friends may call Friday from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
