John Edmond Chaplin, 86, Marion, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, in Florida. He was born in Noble Township, Wabash County, to the late Loyal and Vera (Alber) Chaplin. He married Ruth Anna Howard Aug. 5, 1948. She survives.
He previously worked for the Pennsylvania Rail Road as a section hand, Don Shane Tire Co., where he was the assistant manager for 34 years and C & S Steel for 14 years. He was a United States Army veteran. John was a fixer-upper who loved to fish, play Euchre, shuffleboard, bowl on Wii, play pool, garden and ride scooters with his sons. He loved the Senior Citizens Center.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, with Pastor David Parker officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory, Marion. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth Anna Chaplin, Marion; daughter, Vera Ellen (Barry) Carstensen, Greentown; sons, John E. (Connie S.) Chaplin Jr., Marion, and Charles H. (Patricia) Chaplin, Marion; grandchildren, Bradley (Crissi) McGuire, Peru, Chad McGuire, Kokomo, Randy (Rachel) McGuire, Russiaville, Shannon (Michael) Reed, Marion, Todd (Samantha) Chaplin, Atlanta, Ga., Charlene Chaplin, Marion, Nicole Chaplin, Marion, Jeremy James Chaplin, Marion, Ryan Purvis, Muncie, and Shawn Franklin, Sweetser; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Mildred Bolinger, Huntington; brothers, Joseph Chaplin, Marion, James Chaplin, Utah, Harold (Betty) Chaplin, Wabash, and Gerald (Connie) Chaplin, Wabash; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a stepmother, Catherine Chaplin; four brothers; and two sisters.
