Honesty, integrity that’s rare

Robert L. Moloch of Kokomo sends this Cheer:

“I would like to give credit where credit is due to a local business.

“I have known Mark Terrell of Terrell’s Auto Service in Greentown for many years. Over the years, he has serviced my family car and my classic car. His mechanical knowledge of both the modern and vintage automobiles is unbelievable. I know he particularly enjoys the classic cars.

“I could cite many examples of his honesty, hard work and compassion for others, but I’ll cite one. I had purchased an instrument cluster for my classic automobile on eBay. The temperature gauge actually worked, which is normally not the case. After completing work on several restoration projects on the car, I was ready for Mark to install the temp gauge and sensor. He progressed well, until connecting the sensor to the engine block. He stated that the fitting needed was missing. He took the time to rummage around his shop and tool box, and found the fitting needed to complete the job. The temperature gauge now works great.

“As stated, I’ve known Mark for many years and have found his mechanical knowledge to be second to none. He will only perform the work needed on my automobile and nothing more, and it will be done correctly or he will make it right. To find an individual and business with this degree of honesty and integrity in this day and age is rare. My respect and admiration for Mark Terrell has continually grown over the years.”

A great golden anniversary

Sharon Sue Wright of Anderson sends this Cheer:

“July 31st, Aug. 1 and Aug. 2 ... what a fabulous golden anniversary!

“The Kokomo High School class reunion for the Class of 1959 couldn’t have been more wonderful.

“Beginning with the mixer on Friday night – seeing so many classmates and their spouses, screaming and hugging (especially upon recognizing one another!), sharing stories, and on through the fabulous dinner/dance at Kokomo Country Club on Saturday night.

“The food was delicious, the music great for dancing. I wish we all could have had time to talk to each and every one who was there.

“And here’s to the caring, talented and energetic reunion committee! Oh my gosh, thank you, thank you!

“You put together the directory of as many of us as you could find – names, short biographies, addresses, etc. You had a really nifty KHS mouse pad designed as another memento. And all those name tags! (I promise I turned mine back in this time!)

“With my deepest thanks and admiration, I know I also speak for my friend Kathy Crow (Young) in praising this memorable weekend.

“We will all cherish these wonderful memories. Until 2014 ... Onward, Kokomo.”

‘Simply wanted to help’

Loretta Sink of Kokomo sends this Cheer:

“My husband had surgery in July and wears a sling on his left arm. Recently, while working together to mow our front lawn, a gentleman stopped to offer his assistance.

“He finished that for us, then quickly got into his car and drove off without giving his name. He simply wanted to help someone in need.

“We would like to say, ‘Thank you and may God bless you,’ to this Good Samaritan and others like him who make Kokomo a great place.”

Spay or neuter your cat

Cindy Brown sends this Cheer:

“This Cheer goes out to Dr. Todd Cooney and staff at Noah’s Ark Animal Clinic & Canine Salon for the eye-catching display at this year’s Pet Expo at the Kokomo Event Center.

“The flyers passed out concerning their low-cost spay & neuter clinic for cats on Wednesdays for $55 – including shots – was greatly appreciated.

“Wake up, Kokomo, and step up to the plate. Take responsibility and have your cats spayed and neutered.

“Noah’s Ark is the only veterinary clinic doing their part! The city of Kokomo is way overdue for something like this.

“Thank you so much!”

Program serves 1,253 children

Brian West of UAW Local 1166 sends this Cheer:

“As chairman of the 2009 SUPPLIES program, a program coordinated by the Howard-Tipton Counties Central Labor Council with The Salvation Army and 12 union partners, I wish to express by thanks to all of the volunteers and organizations that helped us to distribute school supplies to 1,253 children this year.

“Special thanks to the United Way and United Way Information and Referral for their support and assistance.

“The Salvation Army’s contribution of 500 backpacks expanded our ability to help. In addition to school supplies, UAW Local 292 distributed 867 pairs of shoes and 600 items of clothing. Thanks to Local 685 for providing clerical support, a home for the program and staffing, and to Local 292 and Esther Tressler for their coordination of the shoe distribution.

“Special thanks to April Reynolds and Nick Loffredo for their extra effort this year. Because of their support, we are able to help students in every school system in Howard County.

“Individual volunteers donated 700 hours of assistance during the week of distribution, and we couldn’t have done it without them.

“This program brings together numerous organizations to work toward a common goal – helping our children get a great education.

“2009 partners also included: Howard Regional Health System, Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 440, USW Local 2958, Carpenter’s Local 615, UAW Local 685 Retirees, Miles of Smiles, Kroger, UAW Local 1302, Smilemakers, UAW Local 1166, Dan’s Variety Bakery, AFSCME Local 2185, UAW Local 292 Retirees, City of Kokomo, OPEIU Local 1, Solidarity Federal Credit Union, North Central Indiana Building Trades Council, Kokomo Gas employees, Shoe Carnival and Payless.”
