Cheers & jeers - Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009

Caught in act of kindness

Andrea Robertson of Russiaville sends this Cheer:

“Cheers to the sweet, older gentleman who quietly paid for breakfast at IHOP for my two little sons and I. He told his waitress that too often a ‘good mother’ goes unnoticed, but HE noticed. I am very humbled. It made my day, and it wasn’t lost on me.

“Of course, he had the waitress wait until he got to the car before telling me. I noticed he read the paper, so if you’re reading – thank you. A good human soul doesn’t go unnoticed by ME.”

Chevy Club donates $2,000

Pamela S. Isaac of the Family Service Association sends this Cheer:

“Thank you, Jeff Golding and the Central Indiana Classic Chevy Club, for your donation of $2,000 to Family Service Association Domestic Violence Program from Sunday in the Park Car Show.

“Your generous donation allows us to provide services to women and children who are fleeing an unsafe environment.

“In 2008, the domestic violence program provided services to 86 women and 70 of their children. We provided 14,639 meals and 3,274 safe nights for these individuals.

“These services would not be possible without generous donors like you. Thank you for all you have done to help provide a safe place for the women and children we serve.”

Auction raises more than $6,000

Reba Harris, executive director of The Gilead House, sends this Cheer:

“The staff at The Gilead House would like to thank everyone involved in making The Gilead House’s sixth annual Chili/Soup/Auction a success again this year. After all of our expenses were paid, our total profit for this year’s auction came to $6,332.55.

“We feel so blessed that in the economic crisis that Kokomo has been in this past year, many local businesses were still willing to give in order to help us to be able to continue our mission of helping our women on their rode to recovery.

“Businesses and individuals such as Janson Taxes and Asphalt Sealing, Attorney James Butcher, Mary Carden, Attorney Corbin King, Kokomo Herald (Wayne Janner), Nick Pate (State Farm Insurance), Panda Van, Dr. Sherri Nuss and Dr. Radcliff Jones were good enough to sponsor our auction this year and that paid for all of our advertising.

“Herman McCombs volunteered his services again this year as our auctioneer and he did a wonderful job. He brought his lovely wife with him and his son, also. Thank you to the whole family for a job well done.

“We also want to thank all the people and businesses that donated food this year. That would include Applebee’s, Chili’s, Grindstone Charley’s, Coney Island, Teresa Addison, Karen Fisher, McCalister’s, Culver’s, Sarah Patterson, Windmill Grill, Alberta Rayburn, Olive Garden and Coca-Cola.

“Last but not least, we want to thank all the people that came to the auction and bid on all the wonderful items that had been donated. A good time was had by all and many people went home with some really nice things. You might be seeing some of them under your Christmas tree later this year! Thanks again to all and may God bless you as he has The Gilead House.”

Carpets look like new

Margie Carver of Kokomo sends this Cheer for a local business:

“I would like to give a big Cheer to the A-Team Carpet Cleaning Co.

“Carpets in two of my rooms had stains that previous cleanings could not get out. I told them I didn’t know what the stains were, just to do their best.

“Well, they did a wonderful job. The stains are gone and the carpets look practically new.

“Thank you, A-Team.”
