Today, I will tell you a story about my soul mate and wife, who has been with me for more than 57 years now. Time has gone by so quickly, it only seems like yesterday when we met.
Her name is Ramona; I call her Moni for short. Her friends call her Ramona or Mona, and the general public knows her by Aunt Moni. She sort of picked up that name because of the many children she has taken care of for so many years. She has watched and helped train 26 kids besides our two daughters and the nephew who grew up in our home.
Moni was a baby sitter when I first met her, and she sort of carried on that trade for many years afterward. Relatives, friends and mothers we never knew before wanted my lady to baby-sit for them. It seems word of mouth traveled far when it came to the way she took care of children.
Ramona was and still is a friend to every baby born. She loves them. The memories lay deep within her heart for each and every one of those she cared for. I guess that was one of the reasons for her to be here on this earth.
When I first met this young lady, I saw a slim, brown-haired, blue-eyed gal who wore short hair with bangs. She had a scarf around her neck and a full skirt with a can-can slip. I thought to myself, here was someone who reminded me of my life at home.
I really never was a guy who ran after every girl who was out there, as that was not the way I was brought up. We were to always respect the females, just like we were to respect our neighbors.
