A ‘faith-affirming’ New Year’s Eve

Brent Faulkner, pastor of high school ministries at Crossroads Community Church, sends this Cheer:

“I want to thank the volunteers and local businesses that made ‘NYO 2013’ a successful event. Because of this community’s support, we were able to give 615 middle school and high school students a safe, fun and faith-affirming environment to celebrate New Year’s Eve.

“Close to 90 adult volunteers helped run the all-night event at Northwestern High School.

“Special thanks go to the members of Kokomo’s Youth Leaders Roundtable for their leadership; Northwestern School Corp. for opening up its facilities; Blush and First Congregational Church for their financial support; Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, Jamie’s Soda Fountain, Olive Garden, Dairy Queen, KFC, Frito-Lay and Weaver Popcorn for their generous food donations; and the numerous volunteers who spent the night serving community youth.

“Thanks for helping make this New Year’s safe and fun for so many students!”

‘The residents were truly blessed’

Jennifer Vary, executive director of Howard Haven, sends this Cheer:

“I would like to express my sincere appreciation for the individuals, organizations and churches that made Christmas a wonderful place at Howard Haven. All of our residents were adopted for Christmas and were very excited to open their gifts on Christmas morning. We had many visitors, presents and festivities along the way. The residents were truly blessed with the community’s outpouring support that made this Christmas a holiday to remember.

“We would like to thank our volunteers for their continuous dedication to our residents, by providing fun activities and weekly outings. It is through the tremendous support of our caring community that helps us provide the best possible care for our residents.

“If you would like to receive our monthly newsletter, Haven Happenings, it provides all the current events, needs list and volunteer opportunities at Howard Haven. Please feel free to contact me at 765-452-4552 and I will add you to our contact list.”

‘Helpfulness is just normal behavior’

Rebecca Lepper of Kokomo sends this Cheer for a top-performing employee:

“A Cheer and thank-you to Donna at Kokomo Lock and Key on Alto Road.

“She went out of her way to help me solve a problem, and her solution cost me nothing; she wouldn’t even take a cup of coffee or a Coke for her assistance. I have no doubt her helpfulness is just normal behavior.

“When I entered the store, I heard the customer in front of me say something along the lines of, ‘Thank you so much. You have helped me with this more than anybody else has been able to.’

“Bravo, Donna! How great to be part of a community that includes you!”

Stop by and try Skeeters

Jenny Tudor of Kokomo sends this Cheer for a new business:

“Just wanted to give a big Cheer to Skeeters on 1720 W. Boulevard. This place has great breakfasts, and the biscuits and gravy are awesome. I would invite everyone to stop by and try it.

“Skeeters also has some nachos that are wonderful, hot dogs and pulled pork sandwiches. The prices are great and food is very, very good.

“The couple who run it are very friendly.

“There’s a drive-thru if you go to the back. And if you go inside, check out some of the antiques and other items they have for sale.

“I would like everyone to stop by Skeeters, check it out and order some great food. Also, if no one has checked out J. Edwards on Sycamore, I would invite you to do that too for some great candy or cakes.

“Have a great day.”
