Jail visitation suspended
Visitation privileges for the 59 Howard County Jail inmates in Unit 2 of the general population were canceled until further notice Sunday as a result of an unlawful smoking incident.
Tobacco was smuggled in to a number of inmates, Jail Commander Harold R. Vincent said.
“(In a facility meant to) keep people in and other people out, a fire could be devastating,” Vincent said.
The incident is currently under investigation. Vincent said he anticipates lifting the sanctions by Thursday or Friday. He will notify the public as to when visitation is reinstated via media outlets.
