KPD takes bruised child from home

Kokomo police officers took a bruised 4-year-old child away from a suspected abuser early Saturday morning.

KPD officials said officers were dispatched to an apartment on Kokomo’s south side around 4:27 a.m. Saturday in reference to a battery of a 4 year-old male.

After arriving, police said the child was found to be suffering from bruising over several areas of his body. He was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries and subsequently released back to his mother. Officers learned that the child was allegedly battered in his home by his mother’s live-in boyfriend.

Investigators arrested Earnest Long, 25, on felony charges of neglect of a dependent and battery.

This case remains active for investigation. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Detective Matt Miller at 765-456-7246, or the Kokomo Police Department Hotline at 765-456-7017.

Police seek warrant after police chase

A suspect led Kokomo police on a high-speed chase from the Markland Mall out to the Kokomo Municipal Airport sometime overnight Sunday into Monday morning.

KPD Major Brian Seldon said the suspect fled on foot, leaving behind one female passenger, who was arrested on a public intoxication charge.

An officer tried to pull the suspect’s vehicle over in the Target parking lot for an equipment violation, when the driver decided to take off. Police caught up to the suspect’s car after the suspect lost control and smashed into the fence surrounding the small airport.

Seldon said the suspect managed to escape on foot, but added that police know who it is, and will seek a warrant for his arrest.

Police will ask multiple charges be filed against the man, including resisting law enforcement, Seldon said.
