Police nab suspect in couch theft

A couch thief had a daring plan for a midnight burglary Tuesday, only to be foiled by a vigilant neighbor and the Kokomo police.

Police said Chad E. Stout, 37, 1300 block of West 400 South, broke into a garage in the 700 block of South Indiana Avenue and tried to make off with a couch by pushing the large piece of furniture down the ice-covered street.

“He was going to store it in a vacant garage nearby,” KPD Major Brian Seldon said.

A neighbor spotted Stout attempting to steal the couch and phoned police, who nabbed Stout within two blocks of the burglary scene.

Stout was charged with burglary as a Class C felony.
