The 95-year-old woman found dead in her burnt house last week died of smoke inhalation, Howard County Coroner Jay Price ruled.
Fire crews found Ellen Singleton in the garage of her home on 1100 East just south of Ind. 26 after the fire was extinguished. She lived alone.
Fire crews from Greentown Volunteer Fire Department and surrounding township fire departments were called to the home at about 1 p.m. Friday.
The one-story home was fully involved in flames and the garage had already collapsed when fire crews arrived.
The investigation into the cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Howard County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office. Foul play is not suspected.
