ATHENS, Tenn. — IU Kokomo’s baseball team visited Tennessee Wesleyan on Friday and Saturday to kick off the new season.
TWU, which is ranked No. 12 in NAIA Division II, swept IUK by scores of 3-2 and 5-0 on Friday and by scores of 8-2 and 14-5 on Saturday. Doubleheader games are seven innings; the series opener went nine.
“This weekend we faced a tough opponent and we learned a lot about ourselves,” IUK skipper Matt Howard said. “We made some early season mistakes and TWU capitalized on them all weekend. The start of any season is always challenging as you want to play your best baseball as quickly as possible, but sometimes it doesn’t work out that way.
“We must stay the course, continue to grow and learn from each game, and remain steadfast in our pursuit of excellence. We will bounce back and we look forward to getting back on the field.”
IUK hosts a weekend tournament beginning Friday at Municipal Stadium.
