The North Central Conference is losing a charter member.
New Castle’s school board on Monday voted 3-1 to leave the NCC and join the Hoosier Heritage Conference. The new league offers New Castle shorter road trips. Current HHC members are Pendleton Heights, Greenfield, Yorktown, Mount Vernon, Delta, New Palestine and Shelbyville.
Huntington North announced last week it was leaving the NCC following the 2014-15 school year. The NCC is adding Harrison, Lafayette Jeff and McCutcheon in 2014-15. When all the moves are complete, the NCC will have nine teams — barring any other moves.
The NCC began in 1926 with 10 schools including New Castle and Kokomo. The Wildkats own a 51-48 series advantage vs. the Trojans in boys basketball.
