Sports briefs for Thursday, Jan. 9

Weather pushes back Kokomo events

Today’s North Central Conference diving preliminaries scheduled for Kokomo have been postponed for a second time due to this week’s snow storm. The event will now take place on Saturday at Ball State University in Muncie, prior to the full NCC boys and girls swim meet.

Also, Kokomo’s freshman girls basketball game at Carmel has been postponed. No makeup date has been decided yet.

NW calls off events due to weather

Today’s scheduled wrestling match between Northwestern and Oak Hill has been cancelled and will not be made up due to this week’s storm. Also, today’s scheduled Northwestern boys swim meet at Delphi has been called off and will not be made up.

In addition, today’s Northwestern’s freshman boys basketball game against Clinton Central has been postponed. No makeup date has been scheduled yet.

Western swimming meet postponed

RUSSIAVILLE — Today’s scheduled boys and girls swim meet between Western and Twin Lakes has been postponed due to this week’s storm. No makeup date has been announced yet.

Peru’s girls hoops game pushed back

PERU — Today’s Oak Hill at Peru girls basketball game has been pushed back to Friday and will now be partnered with the boys Oak Hill-Peru game as part of a girls-boys doubleheader.

The girls varsity game will tip at 6 p.m. in the Tig-Arena, followed by the boys varsity game at approximately 7:45. The boys JV game will tip at 6 p.m. in Peru’s auxiliary gym, followed by the girls JV game at 7:30.

Irish RB Atkinson enters NFL draft

SOUTH BEND (AP) — Running back George Atkinson III has become the third Notre Dame player this offseason to skip his final year of eligibility and enter the NFL draft.
