SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Kokomo’s Skylarr Shurn led the way as the Saint Francis women’s basketball team put the wraps on a perfect season by beating Ozarks (Mo.) 75-68 in the NAIA Division II national title game Tuesday night.
Shurn capped her big senior season with another big game. The Crossroads League’s player of the year earned Tournament MVP honors after scoring 33 points. She also had four rebounds, two steals and one assist.
Shurn made 11 of 24 shots from the field (1 of 2 from 3-land) and was 10 of 13 at the charity stripe.
The No. 1-ranked Cougars (38-0) are first-time champions.
Indiana Wesleyan men win national title
POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. — Indiana Wesleyan beat Midland (Neb.) 78-68 in the NAIA Division II men’s basketball national title game Tuesday night.
The Wildcats (31-6) showed nice offensive balance in winning their first national title. Tournament MVP Jordan Weidner scored 21 points, R.J. Mahurin followed with 19, Lane Mahurin had 11 and Zac Vandewater had 10. Vandewater also had 10 rebounds.
Northwestern High School product Kylan Dubbels worked off the bench for the Wildcats. The sophomore guard scored two points and grabbed a rebound.
Northwestern names hall of fame class
Northwestern High School’s new athletic hall of fame will hold its inaugural induction ceremony on March 28 in the Tiger Den lobby. Social time and the meal is planned for 6 p.m. followed by the induction ceremony at approximately 7 p.m.
Charter members set for induction are former athletic director Dr. Michael Blackburn, former coaches Merrill Hoban and Bob Rodibaugh, and former athletes Brandon Beachy, Gary Mumaw, Jenna (Tarkington) Mumaw and Austin Parkinson.
Tickets for the induction ceremony are $15.
Swim club to hold callouts next week
The Howard County Aquatics Hurricanes swim club will hold callouts from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday of next week at Kokomo High School’s pool. Each participant needs to bring a swim suit, goggles and a copy of his or her birth certificate. Existing club members must come to sign up for the new season.

Breedlove wins 3,200 at qualifying meet
WEST LAFAYETTE — Kokomo senior Jeremy Breedlove won the 3,200-meter run at a Hoosier State Relays qualifying meet on Saturday at Purdue’s Lambert Fieldhouse. Breedlove posted a time of 9:44.69. Breedlove also helped the Kats’ distance medley team take third in a time of 11:11. Jordan Fivecoate, Jadyn Whitehead and Ethan Sharp joined Breedlove on the team.
Many members of Kokomo’s team will run Friday at Ben Davis. Breedlove, the DMR team and others who have qualified will run in the HSR indoor finals on Saturday at Indiana Wesleyan University.
