IUK moves to 7-1 in conference play

MIDWAY, Ky. — The Indiana University Kokomo volleyball squad picked up a pair of Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victories Friday to improve to 22-5 on the year, and 7-1 in conference play.

The Cougars defeated Alice Lloyd 25-10, 25-13, 25-6 in the opener. Megan Riley and Rachel Allen led the way with seven kills apiece, while Keeana Walton and Micayla Speidel both added six kills. Cortney Hanson distributed 15 assists while Kaitlyn Emery added nine. Kaley Harness led the defense with seven digs.

In the nightcap, IUK defeated host Midway 25-14, 25-17, 25-8, led by 13 kills from Speidel, 11 from Harness and 10 from Shelby Spall. Allen added six more, with Riley chipping in with five. Hanson added 39 more assists in the nightcap. Lael Burrus and Kaleigh Ensley both posted nine digs to lead the defense, while Harness added eight.

“We came out focused and played well,” coach Heather Hayes said. “I was pleased with our ability to maintain focus and play to our level most of the day. We served very well, and I saw a lot more varsity in our offense. Our middles played particularly well also, which was nice to see.”
