College football fans are in for big night

Two games with championship implications, matching four highly ranked teams, are on tap tonight in college football.

No. 12 Oklahoma at No. 5 Baylor, with first place on the line in the Big 12, kicks off at about 7:30 tonight on Fox Sports 1. Then, a few minutes after 9 p.m. on ESPN comes No. 2 Oregon against No. 6 Stanford, the Pac-12 game of the year.

Wildkat athletes earn all-NCC accolades

The North Central Conference has announced its final all-league teams for fall sports. The league’s football and volleyball honor squads include 13 Kokomo athletes.

In football, Fletcher Miller, Bo Baker, Jordan Rawlins, Jordan Matthews and Marcelle Kenner earned spots on the first team. Brevin Beard, Cameron Fitts, Cubs Evans and Keyon Washington made the second team.

In volleyball, Tori Lauderbaugh and Amanda Tran were first-team picks and Alanis Jones and Kirsten Frey made the second team.

Fans have chances to meet Kat squads

Kokomo boys basketball coach Brian McCauley has announced plans for a pair of special programs for Wildkat fans.

The “Meet the Future Wildkats Night” featuring players in grades 6-8 is set for 5:45 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18 at Memorial Gym. The “Meet the Wildkats Night” is set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19 at Memorial Gym and will feature the freshman, JV and varsity squads. The Tribune incorrectly reported the dates in Wednesday’s edition.

For each program, there will be player and cheerleader introductions followed by scrimmages. Admission is $1 each night. Fans should enter Gate 8.

Source: Cubs choose Renteria as skipper

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Cubs are set to hire San Diego Padres bench coach Rick Renteria as their manager, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the hiring has not been announced. The team was expected to make it official today.
