Indianapolis Tech star commits to Kentucky

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Tech basketball standout Trey Lyles on Tuesday verbally committed to play at Kentucky.

Lyles is a 6-foot-10 senior forward. He averaged 17.9 points, 12.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.3 blocked shots per game in his junior season. He is widely considered one of the top-10 players nationally in the class of 2014.

Lyles committed to Indiana before his freshman season at Tech. He reopened his commitment prior to his junior season. He had narrowed his suitors to Kentucky and Louisville before choosing the Wildcats.

Lyles liked Kentucky coach John Calipari’s track record of sending players to the NBA. Calipari has coached three No. 1 overall draft picks in the last six years.

“He’s had a lot of guys who have been able to step up to that stage and be all-stars in the NBA,” Lyles said in an Indianapolis Star story. “His overall pitch to me was perfect and I think it’s going to be the best situation for myself.”
