UCT rivals to square off for Rookie title

Planet Mind of UCT beat Roby Outdoors of Northwestern 8-5 Wednesday in the first semifinal of the Rookie League tournament. Next, UCT’s Norman Alarm beat TSE’s Hague Water 8-7 in the second semifinal to set up an all-UCT championship.

Planet Mind and Norman Alarm will meet at 7 p.m. today at Northwestern for the championship.

Senior All-Stars top juniors in exhibition

COLUMBUS — Park Tudor’s Trevon Bluiett scored 44 points, and Marion’s James Blackmon Jr. added 28 to lead the Indiana All-Stars to a 124-102 win over the junior squad Wednesday night at Columbus North High School.

Kokomo’s Tayler Persons was held scoreless in 19 minutes of action, but finished with three assists, two rebounds and a steal.

In the girls’ exhibition, Miss Basketball Whitney Jennings of Logansport scored 17 points to lead the seniors to a 73-71 win over the juniors.

Indiana quarterback Roberson to transfer

BLOOMINGTON (AP) — Quarterback Tre Roberson is leaving Indiana and will transfer to another school.

Roberson won the state’s Mr. Football Award in 2010 and appeared to be Indiana’s quarterback of the future after becoming the first true freshman to ever start for the Hoosiers. But in 2012, the sophomore broke his lower left leg during the second game of the season and wound up splitting the quarterback duties with Nate Sudfeld most of last season. Roberson started four games in 2013.

Coach Kevin Wilson was planning to use both Sudfeld, a junior, and Roberson, a redshirt junior, again this season. Now it’s Sudfeld’s job to lose.

Another quarterback, Cam Coffman, decided to transfer in January.

Larkins helps Fever beat Storm 76-68

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Erlana Larkins scored 17 points and Natasha Howard and Shavonte Zellous each added 13 to help the Indiana Fever beat the Seattle Storm 76-68 on Wednesday night.
