NW player helps Indiana Bandits
ANDERSON — The Indiana Bandits baseball team came in second place in the Anderson University Fourth of July Select Baseball Tournament. The Bandits’ effort was aided by Northwestern’s Aden Merchant.
Merchant pitched a three-hit shutout as the Bandits defeated the Elkhart Rip City Rebels 2-0 in the first of three games on Sunday. Merchant struck out six and walked four.
The Bandits lost in the championship game 6-5 to Fort Wayne Flippin Frogs.
Tipton invitational looking for golfers
TIPTON — The Tipton County Chamber of Commerce has a couple of openings for golfers to make a team for its annunal Golf Invitational on Friday. The invite has a shotgun start at noon.
There will be a barbecue lunch at 11 a.m. followed by the golf. Cost is $50 per player, which includes a gift bag and raffle prizes.

Register for Howard County golf tourney
The American Legion Golf Course will be hosting the Howard County Junior Golf Tourney on Tuesday.
Boys and girls from Howard County between the ages of 8-17 are allowed to enter. Registration is $20, and sign ups are being taken at the American Legion until Sunday at noon. Tee times will be announced on Monday. Food and refreshments will be provided at the tourney.

Catchings lifts Fever past Shock
TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Tamika Catchings scored nine of her 23 points in the fourth quarter, including the tiebreaking basket with 5.2 seconds remaining to lift the Indiana Fever past the Tulsa Shock 78-76 on Tuesday night.
Catchings, playing in just her second game this season after missing Indiana’s first 17 contests due to a sore back, also had 11 rebounds and was announced as a starter for the Eastern Conference in the All-Star game later this month.
Shavonte Zellous had 18 points for the Fever (9-10).
