Sixers hammer Greentown

Post 6 improves to 8-6 with 10-0 victory

Three pitchers combined on a two-hitter, and the offense pounded out 11 hits as the Kokomo Post 6 American Legion senior baseball team downed Greentown Post 317 10-0 in eight innings Tuesday night at CFD Investments Stadium in Highland Park.

With the victory, the Sixers improved to 8-6 on the season as they celebrated their fifth straight win.

“We did just about everything right [Tuesday] night,” Post 6 manager Don Andrews said. “We committed just one error, and I’ve talked all season long about how well our defense has played, and we did it again [Tuesday] night. Our pitching was outstanding, giving up just two hits. And we hit the ball better with 11 hits. That puts us on a little bit of a roll, which is just what we need because we have a big tournament coming up in Lafayette with several good teams.”

Conner Milligan gave Post 6 all the runs it would need with a two-run homer in the first inning. Tyler Goudy and Isaac Turner added RBI singles in the second inning, while Preston Emmons drew a bases-loaded walk to push across a run in the fourth.

Eli Grimes drove in a run on an infield single in the fifth. Goudy drove home home a run in the sixth with a double, and Turner followed and delivered a two-RBI single out of the No. 9 hole. Turner returned to the plate in the eighth and added another RBI on a single, and finished the night 3 for 4 with four RBIs.

Goudy added a 4 for 5 night with a pair of RBIs, and Jessie Broomfield added a pair of singles to the winning cause.

Cody Roberts drew the start on the hill and allowed one hit in three shutout innings. He struck out five and walked none. Grimes followed and threw three innings of one-hit ball with a strikeout, and Drew Bellus closed the game out with two innings of no-hit ball with five strikeouts.
