Perfect game highlights HA youth softball games

RUSSIAVILLE — The Haynes Apperson youth softball tournament took place Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Western High School with champions crowned in 8-under, 10-under and 12-under divisions.

The 10-under division featured a perfect game during pool play as Lewis Cass Softball’s Rylee Holt threw a three-inning perfect game against the Russiaville All Stars with seven strikeouts in an 11-0 win. Those two teams met later in the double-elimination tourney for the championship. Russiaville won the first championship game 7-4 with an 11-strikeout performance from Sadie Harding. Russiaville then scored a 9-6 extra-inning victory over Cass in the final for the title.

Russiaville squad members are Makayla Calloway, Kinzie Conaway, Ari Dill, Harding, Natalie Hess, Shayla Hunter, Draya Hurst, Michaela Irwin, Izzy Johnson, Karson Lechner, Madison Smith and Lacey Starkey.

The Kokomo All-Stars won the 8-under division. The Kokomo squad beat the Logansport Hot Shots 16-5 in four innings for the title. Jojo Trine led the Kokomo girls in the final with a 2-for-3 game at the plate and standout defense. The Kokomo squad also features Carly Patterson, Alayna Ayers, Emma Fowler, Arianna Fox, Kennedy Huckeby, Brooke Hughes, Madison Neff, Kami Shoemaker, Danielle Tate, Esperanze Ammerman and Mackenzie Van Winkle.

Oak Hill topped Frankfort 9-6 to win the 12-U division.

Heath leads all vaulters in HA meet

Masters division competitor Tony Heath recorded a height of 15 feet, 6 inches Saturday in the Haynes Apperson pole vault competition to win the division and lead all participants.

Abby Olsen won the female grade school division (6 feet), Logan Konst won the male grade school division (13 feet), Bre Herring won the high school female division (11 feet), David LaPerle won the high school male division (14 feet), Elizabeth Herron won the elite female division (10 feet), Nathan Schuck won the elite male division (15 feet) after tying with Waylon Coulter, who took second at the same height. Karen Rieger won the masters female division (8 feet).
