AP sources: Cubs, No. 2 pick agree to deal

CHICAGO (AP) — Two people familiar with the situation say the Chicago Cubs have agreed to a deal with No. 2 draft pick Kris Bryant for the slot signing bonus of around $6.7 million.

A 6-foot-5, 210-pound third baseman from the University of San Diego, Bryant led Division I college players with 31 home runs as a junior last season. He is a Golden Spikes finalist.

General manager Jed Hoyer did say “strictly hypothetically” Bryant would start out at “the very low levels” of the minors and hopefully “move quickly through those.”

IU’s Ewald, Purdue’s Webster on watch lists

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Two Indiana players are among those being watched for possible postseason football honors.

The Palm Beach County Sports Commission announced Wednesday that Indiana senior kicker Mitch Ewald has made the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award preseason watch list for the third consecutive season. Ewald is tied for third on IU’s career list with 44 field goals, fourth with 105 extra points and sixth with 237 total points.

The Augusta Sports Council has announced that Purdue senior Cody Webster has been named to the preseason watch list for the Ray Guy Award honoring the nation’s top collegiate punter. Webster last year had a 42-yard average on 70 punts, including 29 inside the opponents’ 20-yard line and 17 that traveled more than 50 yards.

It was easy to tell as a red rash covered her arms and her face was painfully swollen. She is one of those people who loves being outdoors yet highly allergic to the common plant. Sometimes I believe she can get the rash by simply looking at the noxious weed.
