Penn carded a 308 as a team to win the 17-team Western Invitational in girls golf action at Chippendale G.C. Saturday.
Noblesville (319), Hamilton Southeastern (320) and Lafayette Jeff (328) followed Penn on the team leaderboard, while Northwestern rounded out the top five at 345, marking the best finish of the county schools.
Olivia McClure led the Purple Tigers with an 83. Karlie Shaw added an 84, Ashton Martin carded an 88, and Alexis Hungate rounded out the Northwestern card with a 90.
“I’m tickled to death with my team,” Northwestern coach Randy Lindgren said. “We beat three ranked teams in Roncalli, Center Grove and Marion, and that’s a great accomplishment for our girls. We just keep getting better and better. We bunched our scores [Saturday], and that puts strength into your team score when you can do that.”
Kokomo finished in 12th place with a 363. AnneMarie Balsbaugh fired a 77 to lead the Wildkats.
Western followed in 13th place after finishing the round with a 369. Complete scores for Kokomo and Western were not immediately available.
