Sanburn plays key role in playoff run

BELOIT, Wis. — Kokomo native Nolan Sanburn played a key role in his minor league baseball team’s deep run in the playoffs.

The Oakland A’s farmhand made a pair of strong relief appearances for the Beloit Snappers as the squad advanced to the Class A Midwest League semifinal round.

In its playoff opener, Beloit took a 9-6 victory over the Clinton Lumberkings in 10 innings. Sanburn pitched scoreless frames in the seventh and eighth, giving up three hits, striking out three and walking one in the process. He exited with the game tied 2-2, where Beloit rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth to put Sanburn in line for the win. Beloit scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to send the game to an extra inning, where the Snappers later prevailed.

Beloit took a 6-2 win in Game 2 of the series to finish the sweep and advance to the Midwest League semifinal series against the Quad Cities River Bandits, where Beloit fell 2-1 in the series.

Sanburn’s only appearance in the semifinal series was in Game 2, where he picked up a win in relief. He tossed two scoreless frames in the seventh and eighth, allowing two hits, striking out one and walking another.
