Grider shines in Norris Insurance 5K run

CONVERSE — Western senior Matt Grider took top honors in Saturday’s Norris Insurance 5K run in a time of 15:21, marking the second-fastest time ever run in the event.

That time was the fastest time ever run by a high school athlete in the event, according to Western cross country coach Gary Jewel.

Western teammates Riley Carter and Auston Davenport also fared well in the event, which featured nearly 200 runner. Carter finished fifth in 17:00, while Davenport took eighth in 17:41.

Northwestern H.S.sets fall practice times

Northwestern High School has set its practice times for the start of fall sports season. Sports and times are as follows. All first practices will take place on Monday.

Football: 7 a.m. at football practice field.

Boys soccer: 6 p.m. at practice soccer field.

Girls soccer: 9 a.m. at practice soccer field.

Boys and girls cross country: 7 a.m. at senior parking lot.

Boys tennis: 3:30 p.m. at tennis courts.

Volleyball: 9 a.m. at high school gym.

Hungates, Cossell take 2nd at Pro-Lady tourney

LEBANON — Kokomo Country Club professional Cary Hungate led a team last week that took second place in the Indiana PGA Pro-Lady tournament here at Ullen County Club.

Hungate teamed with Jillian Hungate, Alexis Hungate and Courtnee Cossell to shoot a 21-under-par 52 in the best-ball format tournament to second place to a team from Carmel’s Prairie View G.C., which shot a 22-under 51.

A team from Chippendale G.C. consisting of pro Jim Humphrey, Christine Humphrey, Carolyn Hayes and Sally Masariu finished in a tie for 13th place at 14-under 59.
