Coy captures second at Masters’ Worlds

BELFAST, Northern Ireland — Howard County native Chad Coy took second place Monday in the conclusion of the Masters’ Worlds Strongest Man. It’s the second year in a row Coy has taken the silver medal at the world championship event for competitors age 40-and-over.

Heading into the final event of Monday’s marathon of six events, Canadian Mike Saunders held a slim lead with 58 points. Coy was second at 57 and Lithuania’s Antanas Abrutis was third at 56 points. In the final event, the power stairs, Saunders edged Coy for the second time in an event that day to win the event and secure first place.

Coy’s individual results included a victory in the giant dumbbell press (Coy managed 16 reps), second in the car flip, second in the atlas stones, second in the dead lift, second in power stairs, third in the Husalfel Stone carry, fourth in the car hold, and sixth in the semi pull.

The top three finishers get an automatic invitation back for next year’s event, meaning Coy is an automatic qualifier in the 2014 competition.

UAW bowling league seeking participants

The UAW three-man Tuesday team bowling league is seeking more competitors.

The league plays at 5 p.m. weekly at Kokomo Sport Bowl. The league is seeking a 12th team, as well as one individual to fill a spot on a team that currently has only two players.

Jones scores ace at Wildcat Creek G.C.

Brian T. Jones scored a hole in one recently during a round of golf at Wildcat Creek G.C. He used a six iron to ace No. 7, which was playing at 138 yards.

The feat was witnessed by Matt Lushin and Ryan Kinney.
