Kats’ Persons to have MRI on injured knee

Kokomo senior safety/quarterback Tayler Persons has been ruled out of Friday’s North Central Conference opener at Muncie Central.

Persons injured a knee in the second half of Friday’s 39-13 loss to Fort Wayne Wayne on a running play, and did not return.

Kokomo coach Brett Colby said Persons is scheduled to have an MRI on Thursday, and his status for later games will be determined pending the results of Thursday’s tests.

Persons threw for 175 yards, a touchdown and an interception, and tallied a team-high 15 tackles in Kokomo’s season-opening loss to 4A No. 5 Mount Vernon, 29-19 on Aug. 23. He led the Wildkats with 100 yards and two TDs rushing in the loss to Wayne, while adding five tackles on defense.

Signups under way for Carver kid hoops

The Carver Community Center is taking signups for its youth basketball program, which is open to ages 6-18. The cost is $70, which includes a Carver membership. For families with more than one kid, the cost is $50 for the second kid and each additional kid.

Any players in grades 9-12 who plan on playing school ball should not register for Carver basketball.

Anyone interested in coaching or sponsoring a team should contact the center at 765-457-9318, or Butch Grimes at 765-432-0977.

It was easy to tell as a red rash covered her arms and her face was painfully swollen. She is one of those people who loves being outdoors yet highly allergic to the common plant. Sometimes I believe she can get the rash by simply looking at the noxious weed.
