IUK volleyball splits pair of matches
NEW ALBANY — The Indiana University Kokomo volleyball squad split a pair of Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matches with Carlow and IU Southeast Saturday.
In the opener, the Cougars topped Carlow 25-13, 25-19, 25-19. Micayla Speidel led IUK with 12 kills, while Megan Riley added nine, Kaley Harness added seven, and Shelby Spall and Rachel Allen both added six. Cortney Hanson distributed 37 assists.
Lael Burrus led the defense with 14 kills, while Harness added 11 and Allen 10. Speidel and Riley both posted three block assists.
In the nightcap, IUK fell to IU Southeast 25-16, 25-19, 25-21. Speidel and Harness both posted eight kills, while Allen added seven. Hanson had 24 assists, and added three aces and eight digs. Burrus again led the defense with 18 digs.
The Cougars move to 23-6 on the season, and share the lead in the conference standings with Point Park at 8-2.
Neeley, Neer compete at Invite
BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Howard County products Waverly Neer and Bethany Neeley competed in the 40th annual Paul Short Cross Country Invitational Saturday at Lehigh University.
Neer, a junior at Columbia University, finished third in the six-kilometer race in 20:15 to lead her team, as the Lions finished in fifth place.
Neeley, a freshman for Indiana, finished 89th in 21:43 to help the Hoosiers take sixth as a team.
Dartmouth’s Abbey D’Agostino won the race in 19:44.
Rhum sinks hole in one at Crestview
MUNCIE — Johnny Rhum recorded a hole in on during a round of golf Saturday at Crestview G.C.
Rhum used a nine wood to ace No. 9, which was playing at 160 yards. The feat was witnessed by Jack Rhum and David Rhum.
YMCA taking registrations for adult leagues
The Kokomo Family YMCA is currently taking registration for two adult sports leagues.
The adult indoor soccer league takes place on Sunday evenings at Memorial Gym, beginning Nov. 11. Both individuals and entire teams may register. Anyone 15-years of age and older may participate.
