Take time to thank veterans, active personnel in your life

Kokomo Tribune

---- — I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Those words should mean a lot to people in the United States and to some, more than others will ever know. Veterans Day is coming up and we owe so many for our freedom and the things that we are allowed to do everyday without even thinking about it. There are so many veterans around us and we don’t even know it. Some of us have lost loved ones in foreign lands where they were sent to protect our freedom and some have family fighting right now for those freedoms. We should all be very thankful everyday for all of those sacrifices these brave men and women have endured or are enduring.

This Veterans Day, many of our local retailers are offering discounts or free items for veterans or current members of the military. One of the businesses is Don Lowry Lanes. Veterans or military members who come to bowl with other paying bowlers will be able to bowl free on Nov. 11. This is a great way to say “thank you” by our retailers.

If you are aware of a veteran or military personnel, take the time to say “thank you.”

• In my last article, I mentioned that USBC was doing away with a lot of its awards. I don’t know if our secretaries are aware that the Indiana State USBC Women’s Bowling Association has a new award. This is for bowlers having an average of 120 or below. The awards are 75 pins over game average and 125 over series average. There are also many other awards that the women’s state association gives out. Secretaries need to read through the packet they were given at the beginning of the year and become aware of these.

Also, make sure that all awards forms are filled out within the 30 days that the score was bowled. Do not wait until the end of the year to turn in awards because USBC might turn away some of the awards because of the 30-day time limit.

• Senior tournament entries forms are due soon so don’t be too late. City championship tournament entry forms will be in the centers soon so be looking for them.

• The Eagles center is starting roulette bowling on Saturday at 7 p.m. You don’t have to be an Eagles member to come enjoy the evening of fun.

Barb Hamilton bowled a 199 and with handicap had a 275.
