Balentine scores 25 in exhibition victory

EVANSVILLE — Kokomo product D.J. Balentine scored a team-high 25 points Saturday night, leading Evansville’s men’s basketball team to an 82-74 over Illinois-Springfield in exhibition action at Ford Center.

The Purple Aces sophomore drew the start and played 38 minutes, hitting 7 of 16 from the floor (0 of 4 from 3-point range) and 11 of 14 from the free throw line. Balentine also grabbed five rebounds and dished out six assists, which tied for the team high, while his two steals led Evansville.

Jacob Williams led NCAA Division-II Illinois-Springfield with 19 points.

Neer takes runner-up at Ivy League meet

PRINCETON, N.J. — Russiaville native and Columbia University junior Waverly Neer took second place individually in Saturday’s Ivy League cross country championships in 20:20, finishing as runner-up to Dartmouth’s Abby DiAgastino. Diagastino was the 2012 NCAA champion.

Dartmouth’s women won the team title, while Columbia finished fifth. Neer attended Culver Academy.
