LAFAYETTE (AP) — Police in the Lafayette area are chasing a string of slide-offs as drivers lose control on snow-covered roads following a heavy overnight snowfall that blanked the northern half of the state.
Indiana State Trooper Stephen Burns tells The Associated Press the snowstorm has left about 8 inches of snow in Lafayette. The National Weather Service estimates the region north of Indianapolis got between 6.5 to 10 inches of snow.
Burns says roads in the area northwest of Indianapolis remained snow-covered and slick Monday morning. He says snowplow crews haven't been able to keep up with the ongoing snowfall.
Extreme northern and southern Indiana received less snow than Indianapolis. Meteorologist Stephen Koch says in the Vincennes area the 2 inches of snow quickly melted.
