Old county jail up for sale in central Indiana

Kokomo Tribune

---- — LEBANON, Ind. (AP) — A central Indiana county's old jail is about to go on the auction block.

The yellow brick building on the courthouse square in downtown Lebanon was the Boone County Jail from 1938 until 1992. It still has operating doors on the cells that once held about 30 prisoners, along with a commercial kitchen and a walk-in vault where evidence was stored.

Boone County Sheriff Ken Campbell tells WTHR-TV (http://bit.ly/1d9KpYO ) he started his career at the jail as a 19-year-old guard and that it's a valuable piece of the county's history.

Key Auctioneers vice president Seth Seaton says he's unsure what the building might sell for in the April 10 auction. Seaton says the building needs a buyer with a vision of turning it perhaps into a restaurant or museum.
