Muncie nursing student accused of faking cancer

MUNCIE (AP) — Indiana's attorney general's office is seeking disciplinary action against a nursing student who allegedly faked having a cancerous brain tumor.

The state's civil complaint says 31-year-old Chanda Thie told friends and administrators at Ivy Tech Community College in Richmond during 2008 that she was dying of glioblastoma, a highly cancerous brain tumor, and even visited former teachers to say goodbye before she died.

A scholarship was also allegedly created for other students in Thie's name to honor her.

The Star Press reports the state is seeking an order from the state's nursing board imposing disciplinary sanctions against Thie that could include suspension, revocation or probation. The complaint contends that Thie is unfit to practice because of mental disability and addiction to drugs or alcohol.
