BROOKSTON, Ind. (AP) — Indiana State Police say Interstate 65 has been closed near Lafayette after a semitrailer caught fire after crashing into another track parked along the highway.
The crash happened about 1:30 a.m. Friday on I-65 about 15 miles north of Lafayette. Sgt. Ann Wojas says a trucker had stopped on the outer shoulder of the northbound lanes with mechanical troubles. Soon after the driver got out of the truck, it was hit from behind.
Wojas says the second truck continued on for a short distance before it caught fire and became fully engulfed with flames. Both drivers were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Wojas says all lanes of I-65 were expected to be closed for several hours as the crash site is cleaned up.
