LAPAZ, Ind. (AP) — Authorities say a northern Indiana farmer was fatally injured after his clothing became caught in irrigation equipment.
The Marshall County coroner's office says family members found the body of 61-year-old Rick Pertics next to the irrigation equipment Monday on his blueberry farm near the town of LaPaz. WSBT-TV and WNDU-TV report Pertics' wife told investigators that he had gone out the night before to work on the equipment.
The coroner's office says Pertics died from severe internal injuries but it was unclear how his clothing became caught in a shaft connecting an engine and an irrigation pump on the farm about 15 miles south of South Bend.
