ANDERSON (AP) — Opponents of a proposed reservoir along the White River hope to use this weekend's Earth Day festivals to rally public opposition against the project.
Members of the Indiana Forest Alliance and the Heart of the River Coalition plan to hand out pamphlets Saturday about the proposed Mounds Lake Reservoir during Indianapolis' Earth Day Indiana festival and Anderson's Earth Day Arborfest.
The groups want Indiana residents to urge Gov. Mike Pence to halt state support of the proposed Mounds Lake Reservoir.
The reservoir would be created by damming the White River in Anderson, creating a reservoir along seven miles of free-flowing river.
Opponents say the project would inundate at least one third of Mounds State Park, a park known for earthworks built more than 2,000 years ago by the Adena-Hopewell people.
