Banana paint job staying on house near Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE (AP) — The large yellow banana painted on a rental house near the Purdue University campus won't have to be covered up any time soon.

The banana was painted this spring and its future has been in doubt amid questions over whether it violates a zoning ordinance banning houses being used as billboards.

Granite Management office manager Joel Brovont tells the Journal & Courier that a meeting with West Lafayette officials about the house didn't come up with any conclusions.

City attorney Eric Burns says the ambiguity over whether the banana violates the sign ordinance shows that changes might be needed to make sure any signs are appropriate for their neighborhoods.

Granite Management uses a banana as its company logo, but no wording appears on the house.
