Election season is here, and in coming weeks candidates for Kokomo’s mayoral seat and its city council will take part in two nights’ worth of discussion about the city’s future.
PERU – Miles Hewitt, a 38-year veteran of the Peru Police Department and political newcomer, soundly defeated two other candidates Tuesday to win the Republican bid for Peru mayor.
Howard County Elections
Norris Jones, a Howard County Courthouse security officer and retired Kokomo Police Department official, filed his candidacy Thursday to run for sheriff.
A handful of Howard County officials filed their candidacies for the 2018 election Wednesday, wasting no time on the first day declarations of candidacy were accepted at clerks’ offices across Indiana.
Dawn Lushin, the daughter of longtime Center Township Trustee Jean Lushin, has announced her candidacy for the same office, challenging incumbent Democrat Robert Lee in this May’s primary election.

TIPTON – Tipton County Prosecutor Jay Rich, currently seeking reelection for his fourth term as county prosecutor, will be running against Democratic candidate Justin Clouser in the 2018 general election.
Miami County Elections
PERU – Jeff Sinkovics, Miami County chief deputy prosecutor, has filed his candidacy for Miami County prosecuting attorney in the May primary election on the Republican ticket.
PERU – Tamara Geiselman, the Miami County first deputy clerk and an Army veteran, has declared her candidacy for Miami County clerk as a Republican in the May primary election.
PERU – Karen LeMaster, a longtime Miami County deputy assessor, has announced her candidacy for Miami County Assessor on the Republican ticket in the May primary election.
PERU – Christian Sands, a local attorney and a former Miami County deputy prosecutor, has announced he is running for Miami County prosecutor in the 2018 primary election on the Republican ticket.
PERU -- Rick Brown, an Indiana State Police sergeant and Air Force veteran, has announced he is running for Miami County sheriff in the 2018 primary election on the Republican ticket.
Three Republican Statehouse mainstays from Howard County filed for re-election last week and will now spend the next month awaiting the potential candidate filings of local competitors.
