WALTON — Seven of the area’s high school marching bands moved on to regional competition, earning gold awards at the Indiana State School Music Association district contest Saturday at Lewis Cass High School.

In Class D, Eastern, Taylor, Northwestern and Lewis Cass’ bands all earned gold awards to advance to the Oct. 13 regional. Lewis Cass also swept the caption awards in Class D competition.

Tri-Central’s Marching Trojans earned a silver award.

In Class C, Western and Maconaquah’s band each earned gold awards. Western also won awards for best music and visual, while Maconaquah won best general effect.

Kokomo won a gold award in Class A, and swept the captions in its class.

Each band will be assigned to either the northern or southern regional for its classes. Five bands in each class at each site will go on to the Oct. 20 state finals at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis.
