KOKOMO - The Kokomo Board of Public Works on Wednesday approved bids for the demolition of seven properties through the city’s Blight Elimination Program.

Overall, two bids were awarded to Merritt & Son Excavating for a total of $14,736 and five properties were awarded to Vincent Concrete for a total of $38,932.

Merritt & Son Excavating will remove unsafe structures at 1215 N. Courtland Ave. and 129 W. Lordeman St., while Vincent Concrete will raze structures at 614 E. Foster St., 1419 E. Monroe St., 915 W. Park Ave., 1215 N. Purdum St. and 419 S. Washington St.

The project will be funded with money received through the state’s Hardest Hit Fund–Blight Elimination Program. In total, the city was awarded in recent years just over $3 million in grants from the fund.

During its meeting, the BOW also approved the purchase of three additional packer trucks for a total price of $651,576. The purchase piggy backed off the purchase of a 2017 Labrie Packer from Best Equipment approved earlier this year.
