A new business venture will bring changes for downtown Kokomo Dodge dealership Button Motors Inc. in the coming months.

Button Motors and McGonigal Buick, Cadillac, Jeep Inc. announced Wednesday that Button will become jointly owned. McGonigal president Rex Gingerich will run Button’s daily operations as general manager.

Gingerich will keep his responsibilities at McGonigal while spending time at both dealerships. In the short term, he said, he expects to spend more time at Button Motors.

Don Button, owner and president of Button Motors, said in a statement that the Dodge dealership will be “upgrading our business practices as well as relocating our facility.”

“I am optimistic and excited that the change will bring new opportunities to our customers and our sales and service employees,” Button said. “I am confident that Rex Gingerich will provide new ideas and leadership that will benefit sales and service of the current outstanding array of new Dodge cars and trucks.”

Button Motors will remain at 208 E. Sycamore St. for the short term, but “it is expected that, as soon as practical, the physical location of the business will be moved to East Boulevard Street,” the statement says.

Button was unavailable Wednesday to answer questions.

Button Motors has been in downtown Kokomo for more than 73 years — 60 of those as a Dodge dealership.

McGonigal has been in Kokomo for 77 years, opening its present location, 1220 E. Boulevard, in 1978.
