The Kokomo Area Career Center is hosting a new summer camp for Howard County’s middle school girls next week and is seeking students to fill available spots.
The Woods & Metals camp will feature hands-on activities related to welding, manufacturing, and construction in an effort to interest young girls in high-demand, non-traditional career pathways. The camp will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Monday, June 10, through Friday, June 14, at the Kokomo Area Career Center. The cost is $10.
Kokomo Area Career Center officials are also hosting a second camp the following week, from 8 a.m. to noon June 17-21. This Career Exploration camp is open to all Howard County middle school students, and spaces remain available for this experience as well.
Campers can expect to participate in hands-on activities related to various career pathways, including welding, criminal justice, cosmetology, construction, auto technology, and more. The cost of this camp also is $10.
To register for either camp, contact the Kokomo Area Career Center at 765-455-8021. Parents also may register their students during the first day of the Woods & Metals camp. A camp T-shirt is not guaranteed for same-day registration.
Kokomo Area Career Center Director Jonathan Schuck believes campers will have fun, while learning something new about various careers.
“These camps are a great opportunity for students to explore many of the programs we offer at the Kokomo Area Career Center, while possibly discovering a future career path for themselves,” Schuck said.
