A Kokomo man faces numerous cocaine charges after police found him in possession of 15 grams of cocaine during a brief car chase and traffic stop Wednesday evening.

The Drug Interdiction Unit of the Kokomo Police Department stopped Andrew Wise, 22, at about 9 p.m. after he was speeding and veering in to the oncoming traffic near Webster Street and Markland Avenue, Capt. Michael Wheeler reported Thursday.

When officers first attempted to stop the vehicle, Wise failed to stop and continued on and finally stopped just south of Firmin Street on Indiana Street,

Wise also was wanted on warrant for petition to revoke a suspended sentence for public intoxication. Wise also faces resisting law enforcement with a vehicle stemming from the brief chase.

When taken into custody, police found 15.3 grams of cocaine and more $3,000 in cash.

Officers also searched Wise’s residence in the 900 block of West Taylor Street and found about 4 ounces of marijuana, plastic baggies with white powder residue, four sets of scales, two handguns, a 12-gauge shotgun, a supply of ammunition, pharmaceutical pills, and approximately $1,000 cash, Wheeler reported. Additional charges are expected on Mr. Wise as a result of the search warrant.

The Howard-Miami Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force, which investigated the case, is funded in part through an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance and administered in Indiana by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. JAG funding allows states and local governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own local needs and conditions.
