A Fort Wayne hospital listed a Kokomo man in “fair” condition Sunday after he was in a motorcycle accident that killed his wife on Saturday on U.S. 24 in Logansport.

Kokomo residents Scott Miller, 38, and his wife, April, 37, were riding in a motorcycle fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Their bike apparently rounded a curve too fast on U.S. 24, went onto a berm and lost control on rumble strips, friends said Saturday.

The collision threw both Millers from the vehicle.

April Miller died as a result of her injuries.

A medical helicopter flew Scott Miller, who had a gash in his head, to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Neither of the Millers were wearing helmets, the Cass County Sheriff Department said.

Friends said Saturday that April wasn’t planning on attending the motorcycle ride because she couldn’t find a baby sitter, but she found one at the last minute.

After the accident, a couple from Crawfordsville drove past the scene and stopped so one of them, a nurse, could administer CPR.
