The family of John R. Guyer found a fitting tribute to their father in donating a flagpole to the Peru Municipal Golf Course. Submitted photo

PERU – The family of John R. Guyer, a well known Peru businessman who loved to play golf, was looking for a fitting tribute to their father and grandfather.

After talking to Peru Municipal Golf Course golf professional Pat Cox, they decided erecting a flagpole would be a fitting tribute, according to Miami County Commissioner Larry West.

The family purchased a 35-foot flagpole from which a U.S. flag measuring 8 feet by 12 feet proudly flies. Golfers can see the flag from most of the course, depending on which way the wind is blowing.

Guyer’s family, including children Debbie Hullinger, Bunker Hill; Nancy Melling, Kokomo; and John R. Guyer II, Peru; and nine grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attended a dedication last week. Also present were a number of golfers and friends of Guyer.
