A north-side Village Pantry clerk slammed a cash drawer on the hand of a would-be thief early this morning, Kokomo police say.

At about 1:32 a.m. today, police received a report of an attempted strong-arm robbery at the convenience store at 312 N. Phillips St. A clerk at the store said a woman began to make a purchase and attempted to steal money as the clerk opened the cash register.

The clerk closed the drawer on the woman's hand and she could be injured, police said. No money was taken.

The woman made a threat to the clerk and left, police said.
