Motorcyclist injured in crash
Kokomo police said the driver of a Ford Expedition pulled into the path of an oncoming motorcycle Monday morning, causing injuries to the 19-year-old cyclist.
Robert J. White, 2100 block of Mark Lane, suffered incapacitating injuries during the crash at Washington and Hoffer streets just after 9 a.m. Monday.
Police said the driver of the SUV, Julia A. Rainer, 51, 2600 block of West Boulevard, said she looked both ways as she traveled eastbound on Hoffer Street and attempted to cross Washington Street. Rainer said she stopped at Washington Street before proceeding into the intersection, police reported. The intersection is a two-way stop. Traffic on Washington Street does not stop at the intersection.
Hospital officials weren’t immediately available for an update on White’s condition Monday afternoon.
Police chase ends in Kokomo
A chase which began in Tipton County came to an end at Lincoln and Goyer roads in Kokomo early Sunday.
Kokomo police said Jerrod A. Huey, 39, 200 block of West High Street, Greentown, didn’t pull over when a Tipton County Sheriff’s deputy tried to initiate a traffic stop just after 4 a.m.
The deputy chased Huey as far as the T intersection where Lincoln and Goyer come together. Eastbound on Lincoln, Huey attempted to turn south on Goyer but instead laid his motorcycle down, police said.
Huey was taken to Community Howard Regional Health with what police said was minor bleeding from the head. Hospital officials said he was treated and released.
Police said Huey tested .15 blood alcohol content at the crash scene. The Kokomo Police accident report indicates police likely will seek a warrant for charges of resisting law enforcement and operating while intoxicated against Huey.
