Applications are now available for the Sellers scholarships, which will be awarded to Taylor High School students.
Applications can be picked up at Taylor High School superintendent’s office, high school office or Guidance Office, or requested electronically by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
To be eligible, students must have a Taylor High School diploma, a C average GPA and good citizenship. THS alumni should include their latest collegiate grade report or unofficial transcript.
More than 600 Sellers scholarships have been awarded since the program started in 2006, totaling more than $200,000. The grants were made possible by a bequest of $750,000 from the Sellers estate to Taylor High School with the stipulation that the scholarships be awarded to Taylor graduates. Lloyd, Grace, and Gene Sellers were long-time Taylor Township residents and supporters of Taylor schools.
The amount of this year's basic grants will not be known until all the applications are in, and then the scholarship committee will calculate the amounts based on the current principal and the number of applicants.
This also will be the third summer for Sellers Internships. Five students may receive up to $1,000 for working at a local not-for-profit. Interested students will need to request both the basic Sellers application and the Internship form.
Internship applicants must be starting at least their sophomore year of college in the fall. Interns also will automatically qualify for the basic Sellers scholarship, which is estimated to be around $500.
Applications are due in the Guidance Office by April 14; winners will be notified by May 1 and recognized on May 31.
