TIPTON – Tipton and its residents are set to be featured Thursday on PBS station WIPB-TV as part of a television series highlighting small Indiana towns.
“Now Entering …” is a video scrapbook of the people, places and history of towns, as seen through the eyes of its residents.
And according to the show’s producers, Tipton is a town with a lot of stories to tell. Many of those stories will be told during the show, which airs live at 8 p.m. Thursday on WIPB, at www.wipb.org and on the station’s Facebook page.
Tipton is the seventh town to be featured in the series. WIPB kicked off the project in 2016 with Portland. Other towns in the series include Pendleton, Knightstown, Upland, Alexandria and Winchester.
“Now Entering …” in Tipton will feature a variety of video vignettes about the town, told by some of its biggest cheerleaders. Stories include the rich agricultural traditions of the area, how the community values and supports its seniors, and the famous Tipton County Pork Festival.
Tipton leaders and residents were encouraged to collect video footage and still photos to showcase their unique stories. WIPB’s production team traveled to Tipton in March to record interviews with the storytellers, who provided the narration for each of their stories. Those stories were combined to create the show.
Michelle Kinsey, community outreach director for WIPB, said 19 people participated in the show as storytellers, who took videos that included other community members from Tipton.
Participants started filming their segments in January before production day on March 16, when the storytellers provided all their photos, videos and recorded interviews to the production team.
“Maybe Tipton is a small town you have only driven through on your way to another location,” said Heather Hunt, this episode’s producer and director. “‘Now Entering … Tipton’ gives viewers a chance to experience the town through the eyes of its residents, as they share what makes their community a great place to live.”
Many of those storytellers will be in the WIPB studios on Thursday for the live pledge program to talk about their experiences and take phone calls.
The next town featured in the series will be Rushville. For more about the project, including past episodes, go to wipb.org/nowentering.
